SSC GD constable exam

SSC GD Constable is a national-level competitive exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission of India that recruits eligible candidates for the general duty post of constables in various armed forces. The lists include Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and Secretariat Security Force (SSF).  

The selection for the SSC GD Constable is conducted in three stages- written exam, followed by a standard physical and medical test. SSC GD Constable Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification for SSC GD Constable

Age Limit

The SSC GD constable exam is for various forces; however, age requirements are the same for all. The applicant must be aged between 18 to 23 years while filling out the form. As per the order from MHA, certain relaxations are also given. 

SSC GD Constable Age Relaxation

  • Scheduled Castes (SC)/Scheduled Tribes (ST): 5 years
  • Other Backward Class (OBC): 3years
  • Ex-Servicemen: 3 (after deduction of the military service rendered from the actual age)
  • Children and dependents of victims killed in the 1984 riots or communal riots of 2002 in Gujarat (Unreserved): 5 years
  • Children and dependents of victims killed in the 1,984 riots or communal riots of 2002 in Gujarat (OBC): 8 years
  • Children and dependents of victims killed in the 1,984 riots or communal riots of 2002 in Gujarat (SC/ST) : Ten years
  • Domiciled candidates of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from January 1, 1980, to December 31, 1989: Five years

Physical Eligibility for SSC GD Constable 

Physical exam is equally important, and if any candidate fails to clear this exam, they get disqualified from the selection process. 

For male candidates, the standard physical requirement is 

Height

  • For Applicants from hilly areas (Garhwalis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas, and candidates belonging to states of Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Leh & Ladakh regions of J&K)-  165 cm 
  • From the rest of the country (for general, SC, and OBC applicants): 170 cm
  • For ST applicants: 162.5 cm 

Chest

  • With expansion– 80 cm 
  • Expansion upto– 5 cm 

For ST candidates

  • With expansion- 76 cm 
  • Expansion upto- 5 cm 

Weight 

It should be in proportion with height and age. 

For females, the only standard physical requirement listed is height.

  • For Applicants from hilly areas (Garhwalis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas, and candidates belonging to states of Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Leh & Ladakh regions of J&K)-  155 cm 
  • From the rest of the country (for general, SC and OBC applicants ): 157 cm
  • For ST applicants: 150 cm

Nationality

Applicants must submit their domicile/PRC against their State/UT. The candidate must be- 

  • A citizen of India 
  • A citizen of Nepal or Bhutan 
  • Tibetan refugees who have permanently settled in India before January 1, 1962, or 
  • Indian origin applicants who have migrated from Sri Lanka, East African Pakistan, Burma, S countries of Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Uganda, Zambia, and Vietnam and have settled in India permanently.
